Shani is a bonafide Citygirlinredlipstick, she has a whole collection of reds to choose from and is known for being a bit of a mixologist – she mixes her reds, creating bold crimson color. What’s adorable about this Citygirl is that she wears red lipstick even while she’s at home wearing her comfy PJ’s.
She took time out of her busy schedule to let us in on her take of our favorite hue.
“I grew up thinking there was no red lipstick to suit my skin tone. Then somewhere along the line, either that changed or the beauty industry changed, because now I have a collection of reds that I love. I also have a feature on my blog called, “The Search for the Perfect Red,” which may just be an excuse for me to keep collecting them.
I’ve been known to put on some red lipstick while in pajamas and hair up, just lounging around the house. It just feels like me. Part of it is the retro, Old Hollywood feel, but part of it is just that it feels right. I never feel like it’s obvious, I just feel fabulous.
My current favorite is By Terry Rouge Terrybly in Terrific Rouge. A terrible name, but an amazing formula. For me, lip liner is a must, since my lower lip is fuller than my upper, and sometimes that causes the lipstick to bleed up over my top lip outline. I need to make a mental note to try on Garconne by Guerlain on my next trip to Union Square. It appears to be a berry brick red, almost like a bright claret.

February’s Red – Jungle Red by Nars
I wasn’t going to buy myself a new red, but found myself inside of our neighborhood Nars Boutique, buying Valentine’s Day gifts for my sisters.
My friend Dalia (makeup artist extraordinaire) persuaded me to try on Jungle Red. She was wearing it herself, but when I first looked at the shade, it didn’t look like my kind of red.
Well, I tried it and was hooked. I know, Jungle Red has been available for years, but it’s better being late to the party than missing it entirely.

I’ve been unable to focus on finding a new shade of crimson to post about, why you may ask? Because I have not been able to stop with my current lip rotations.
I’ve been using Nars and ELLIS FAAS, two genius’s of color. Now you guys know the reasons why I have not been posting about new red lipstick discoveries, please forgive me!

City Girl in Red Lipstick – New York, Scarlet Sinclair, Tattoo Artist
Scarlet Sinclair is a multifaceted tattoo artist who every so often moonlights as a burlesque performer and is known to dabble in white magic, okay she’s a good witch and she’s given me good advice.
We asked Scarlet about red lipstick and she graciously shared her favorite hues of crimson with us.
“ MAC Ruby Woo is my go-to “WOW” red for when I want to dress up or just wear something bright and show-stopping. But sometimes it’s too dry, so my second MAC fave is Russian Red… similar stunning true red, just creamier. Other favorites include Besame’s Red Velvet which is a deep, classic red (I’m a sucker for their vintage packaging!). And my new everyday favorite is Tarte’s Lipsurgence Matte Lip Stain in Fiery, it’s a lovely deep red yet has a very soft quality to the color… it’s a matte finish yet feels like lip balm.
I’ve always been a fan of red lipstick for some reason. It hearkens back to old Hollywood glamour and makes me feel fearless even if I’m in jeans and a t-shirt. I’m also a practicing witch so I believe in using makeup as a tool of transformation and feminine power.
