The Allure of a Great Scent – Maison Francis Kurkdjian

FKI have a heightened sense of smell, this can be attributed to my French gene.  Anything  I can detect either smells sublime or reeks.

The first time I became aware of the power of scent was Stefano, a gorgeous Italian blonde from Rome.  All of the girls at work were in love with him, except myself.  I’ve just never been attracted to blondes.

Until one afternoon, I arrived at work to the most intoxicating scent, and I asked what it was and Stefano quickly claimed himself.  Well ladies, after that Stefano became  attractive to me, I joined the bandwagon and became one of his many admirers.

FK TrioThe point I am trying to make is that the right scent can attract the most unlikely suitor, so if you have a secret crush, maybe  it’s time you  changed your fragrance?

One of my favorite scents is by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, it’s Amyris.  I just love it on myself and whenever something unpleasant is in the air, I just open up my shirt, inhale and all seems to be alright with the world again.

Keeping It Simple – Weekend Beauty Routine

photoI don’t know about you guys, but I like to keep it simple on the weekends.  Unless of course I have a date I’m nervous about.  Nervous because there are some men that just make a woman nervous, if you know what I mean.

Since I wear makeup 5 days a week and blow-dry my hair, it makes sense that I’m just lazy come Saturday morning, especially if it’s a beautiful day.

I wear no makeup, except for my eyebrows and maybe a CC or BB Cream, but highly unlikely.

This past weekend, was no exception and my beauty routine was easy-peasy.

1. Eye Cream – don’t forget to use one with anti-aging benefits, by Orlane.

2. Facial Oil with antioxidant protection and hydration, by Sunday Riley.

3. Lip Balm – this one is the best by Homeoplasmine.

4. Eyelash enhancer by Talika Lipocils.

5. Rodan Lip Balm for a bit of color.

6. Eyebrow Pencil by “IT” Cosmetics, the best I’ve ever tried.

7. Serum De Soie by Leonor Greyl – I let my hair air-dry and this keeps it silky smooth and frizz free all day.

There you have it, mind you I didn’t take any pictures of myself.  Not that I didn’t look nice, it’s just not the version of myself I want caught on film.

My Long Weeked

photo1The last few weeks have been hectic for me, with being busy at the office and being an Open House Assistant it left me with little time for creativity and relaxing.  In other words, I needed a drink.

My weekend started on Friday evening with a bottle of bubbles and watching back to back episodes of The Strain, a good show by the way.

photo-3The next morning we woke up and headed out to Sonoma, back to Rams Gate Winery,

where we ate great food, drank amazing wine and enjoyed great conversation.

photo-4-1We also met Beau, the Falcon whisperer, he was walking through with one of the birds and allowed people to pet the bird as he walked by.  The bird was so cute, he was wearing blinders and when too many people were petting him he tried to run into Beau’s arms.

photo-4After that we went to Angelo’s Deli, an institution it itself, selling the best in deli sandwiches and  his famous garlic salsa.

They sometimes have frozen apple pies but didn’t on this visit.

How Many Shades of Red Do You Have?

RedsI can’t keep track anymore, they are all gorgeous and work with my complexion and pearly whites.

I try not to get fixated on anyone color, but sometimes that happens.

I’m searching for a new red, does anyone have any suggestions?

JUNGLE RED by NARS

Jungle RedJungle Red by Nars is a  personal favorite that is being worn down to the nub.  If you guys haven’t seen the movie “The Women” that’s where the name for the iconic lipstick came from.

Not only because the leading ladies wore matching red lips and nails, but because some of the best writing went into those movies.

So, what’s your favorite 1930’s film?

 

 

Pinks & Reds

photoTwo of my favorite lipstick brands, ELLIS FAAS and NARS.  Why? Because the hues are drop-dead-gorgeous.  I mean really you can’t go wrong.

I alternate all of my lipstick during certain times of the year, sometimes getting stuck with one shade for weeks at a time.

City Girl in Red Lipstick – Taylor Schilling

I love it when celebrities embrace red lipstick.  It’s a bold-look-at-me-color that demands attention.

Taylor Schilling from “Orange is the New Black” is wearing one of my all time favorite shades, Dragon Girl by Nars.

Can you guess who did her flawless makeup application? None other than celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow.

But look closely at the details, Taylor has gorgeous skin and looks amazing.

This is proof that Dragon Girl by Nars is pretty much a universal shade of crimson.  It’s worn by blonds, brunettes and redheads.

Tina Turnbow Turns Up the Heat In Red

Tina TurnbowOver the weekend Tina Turnbow attended her good friend Taylor Shilling’s birthday party(Of Orange is the New Black) and we got to see this makeup guru look amazing, her makeup was perfection and her choice of red lipstick was gorgeous!

So gorgeous that I had to know what she was wearing.  So for those of you that are trying to live a more organic or natural lifestyle, pay attention.

The two items she used were all natural:

Lip liner by Dr. Hauschka in Garnet and lip gloss by Benencos in Kiss Me.

Tina chose these because the hues are deeply pigmented and you can purchase these beauties at Whole Foods.

Removing Your Makeup

photo-1Call me a fanatic, but I remove my makeup using a makeup towelette first. My favorites by far are Yes to Cucumbers by Yes to Carrots and most recently the New Cucumber & Sage Towelettes by Burt’s Bees.

I love the scent and this is usually my first step to removing my makeup, or wiping my hands in the event I don’t have water & soap handy.

You can in a pinch use these when you’re out camping or don’t feel like you can make it over to the sink.  I have never used them that way, but there is always a first time.

My Two Reds

Nars-BesameOkay, I’ve been having a hard time putting down my Nars, but really like the New Besame Tango Red.  What to do, I ended up applying the Tango Red first and layering on top my Jungle Red by Nars.

I have to say that the results are pretty, and perhaps one day there will be a new selfie to show you guys how pretty it actually is.

What two shades do you mix?
